More big screen heroines.

Spider-Gwen

Gwen first appears in Edge of Spider-Verse #2. The one-shot presents the character and has her reveal her true identity to her father. Otherwise, Gwen plays a small role in Spider-Verse event, it’s not worth reading it for her. (#5 of the same series introduces Peni Parker and has her meet Spider-Ham)

Her next appearance is in Spider-Verse Vol 2, in which Gwen wakes up in a world where she is supposed to be dead and meets a handful of characters with similar powers. 5 chapters.

Ladies of Wakanda

Unfortunately, women do not have a nice history in Black Panther comics. Shuri returns from the death in “A nation under our feet” story arcs (Black Panther Vol 6 #1-12), which also prominently features the Dora Milaje, though not any of the ones featured in the film. Nakia and Okoye take part in “Wakanda Forever” story arc, composed of three one-shots: Amazing Spider-Man: Wakanda Forever, X-Men: Wakanda Forever, and finally Avengers: Wakanda Forever (as if they couldn’t just make this a single miniseries).

Mutant Girls

On the other hand, X-Women are much more prominent in the comics than in their adaptations.

X-Men #129-142 feature a series of female centered storylines, including Jean Gray focused “Dark Phoenix” and Kitty Pryde focused “Days of Future Past”. Last of the chapters has the series be retitled to Uncanny X-Men. 14 chapters.

God Loves, Man Kills one-shot features Kitty Pryde in a storyline later loosely adapted as X-2.

Ororo: Before The Storm presents Storm’s backstory. The storyline is continued in Storm Vol 2. 10 chapters total.

Magik is a miniseries focused on Illyana from upcoming New Mutants film, co-starring Ororo and Kitty. 4 chapters.

Extraordinary X-Men is a recent series featuring Ororo, Jean and Illyana. 21 chapters total (#1-20 regular series and an annual).

Ultimate Comics: X-Men #5-18 feature a Hunger Games inspired alternate universe in which Kitty Pryde fights in a civil war. Rogue features in a supporting role. 14 chapters.

Goddess of Thunder

Surprise! Doctor Foster wore the mantle of Thor in Thor Vol 4 (#1-8 and an annual), as well as in the first storyline of the following series, Mighty Thor Vol 2 (#1-5). 14 chapters total.

I was avaiting New Mutants until I realized that the film whitewashes the cast D: Cheyenne heroine's played by pale part-Native actress. Afrolatina heroine's played by pale Latina actress. Dark Brazilian hero's played by pale Brazilian actor. Lesbian Vietnamese team leader's missing entirely. Russian heroine's played by British actress. Audience members ignorant of the characters would see the group as entirely white and WASP-default (which ignores the specific cultural context of Illyana and Rahne). The same problem occured with all previous mutant films, with Storm and Darwin being the Token Blacks of their respective films (and Darwin dying in his first action scene despite his power being literally Survive Anything). In light of Disney's and Sony's Marvel properties introducing more and more diversity, this leaves a bad taste in the mouth.
